Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda on Thursday asked the law enforcement agencies to remain alert against any possible attempt to create a 2014-like situation centring the upcoming national election.

“Security strategy should be taken up keeping in mind the violence during the 2014 national polls as two persons were killed a day after the allocation of election symbols,” he said in a coordination meeting with high-ups of different law enforcement agencies at the Election Bhaban in the city, reports BSS.

Four election commissioners, secretary of the Election Commission (EC) Secretariat, high officials of home and public administration ministries, police, RAB, Ansar, village police, coast guard and intelligence agencies were present on the occasion.

“We shouldn’t forget the situation centring the 2014 national polls. A terrible situation was created at that time. Preparations should be taken to word off repetition of that situation,” he added.

The CEC stressed the need for coordination of all the law enforcement agencies with local administrations for peaceful completion of the national polls. He also suggested intensifying intelligence vigilance in this regard.

Nurul Huda asked the law enforcement agencies not to harass anyone or file any case without valid reasons and to ensure communal harmony and safe return of the voters to their homes (after casting votes).

He hoped that the 11th national election will be held in a free, fair and neutral manner with the help of all concerned.

Regarding the election preparations, he said, “Ninety five per cent tasks relating to national election have already been accomplished. The polling centres and number of voters have already been finalised. Panel of polling officers have also been prepared and their training is going on.”
