Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin has said he expects to receive an official letter from the chief adviser soon about the 13th parliamentary election.

He added that the election schedule would be announced two months ahead of the polling date.

Speaking at his office in Nirbachon Bhaban in Dhaka’s Agargaon on Wednesday, Nasir said: “I hope to receive the letter soon. Even if we don’t receive it, we are making preparations in advance. Despite several challenges surrounding the February election, our preparations are moving forward.

“The schedule will be announced two months before the date of the polls,” he said.

The chief adviser addressed the nation on Tuesday to mark the first anniversary of the July Uprising and spoke about the upcoming election.

“After addressing you [public] on this great day, we will enter our last and most important chapter. We will now begin the process of handing over responsibility to an elected government,” the chief adviser said in his televised remarks.

“On behalf of the interim government, I will send a letter to the Chief Election Commissioner, so that the Election Commission organises the national elections before the next Ramadan, in February 2026,” he added.

In a previous address to the nation in June, the chief adviser had indicated that the election would be held in the first half of April 2026.

However, after a meeting with Tarique Rahman in London on Jun 13, a joint declaration suggested the elections could take place before Ramadan in February, if preparations were complete.
