The prosecution of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) on Monday finished presenting its arguments during the charge-framing hearing in the case filed in connection with crimes against humanity over the killing of Begum Rokeya University (BRU) student Abu Sayed during the July-August 2024 Uprising.
Chief Prosecutor Mohammad Tajul Islam placed arguments before the ICT-2, headed by its Chairman Justice Md Nazrul Islam Chowdhury, and petitioned to frame charges against 30 individuals in the case.
After the hearing, the tribunal adjourned the proceedings until Tuesday (today), when the defence is scheduled to present its arguments.
Earlier, on July 22, the ICT-2 ordered the appointment of six state defence counsels to represent 24 fugitive accused to facilitate their trial in absentia.
The prosecution on June 30 submitted formal charges against 30 individuals, including former BRU vice-chancellor Prof Dr Md Hasibur Rashid, in the case. After a hearing, the ICT-2 took the charges into cognisance.
It also issued arrest warrants against 24 accused, including the former BRU vice-chancellor, as they are absconding.
Six accused - former BRU proctor Shariful Islam, Chhatra League (banned) leader Imran Chowdhury Akash, Sub-inspector Amir Hossain, Constable Sujan Chandra Roy, Rafiul Hasan, and Anwar Parvez - who are already in custody were produced at the tribunal on Monday.
