Chattogram mayor calls for judicial probe into CU clashes

Chattogram City Mayor Shahadat Hossain has called for a judicial inquiry into the clashes at Chattogram University.

He made the demand on Sunday evening while visiting injured students at Chattogram Medical College Hospital.

“Such violence on campus is never desirable. The attack on university students by locals is both unfortunate and alarming. A neutral judicial inquiry is necessary to identify the real culprits and bring them to justice. Those who are creating unrest in the academic environment through violence must face stern action,” Shahadat said.

Earlier, the mayor spoke with the injured students receiving treatment at the hospital and assured them of all possible assistance for their medical care.

On Saturday night and throughout Sunday, students clashed repeatedly with residents of Jobra village near the CU campus.

At least 150 students, along with the university’s pro-vice-chancellor, proctor, and teachers, were injured in the violence.
