Check price list before buying: DNCC mayor

The Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) mayor Atiqul Islam has asked city dwellers to check price list before buying commodities from markets. 

He made the call on Monday while visiting a city kitchen market at Uttara Sector-6 to verify whether commodity prices remain stable or the sellers are abiding by prices set by the government. 

During the visit, the DNCC boss monitored grocery and kitchen shops to verify whether the sellers were maintaining the government-fixed price chart or not.

For violating government-fixed price chart ans selling date-expired products, on duty executive magistrate Sohel Rana fined Tk 30,000 to two grocery shop owners in presence of the DNCC chief.

Besides, the authority fined two people for running business by occupying footpaths.

The DNCC mayor also fined three kitchen shop owners Tk 55,000 for not displaying government-fixed price chart and charging more money to buyers.

The DNCC mayor told that authorities will fine and hand down legal punishment if anyone is found selling commodities by taking extra money.

“The supply of commodities are sufficient in the market, we expect businesses will follow the right path. Such drives will continue regularly in the city markets,” he mentioned.

The executive magistrate Sajid Anwar continued the drive Uttara Sector-6 and evicted 30 footpath shops and fined Tk 300,000 to Meena Bazar and Tk 100,000 to ‘Shop an Save’  for violating consumers rights.
