Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus is kicking off discussions with various political parties by meeting with representatives from seven Islamic parties.
Leaders from the Khelafat Majlish, Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish, Hifazat-e Islam, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Bangladesh, Khilafat Andolan, Islami Andolan and Nizam-e-Islam arrived at the State Guest House Jamuna at 3:00pm for the discussions, reports bdnews24.com.
Discussions between the chief advisor and various political parties are scheduled from 3pm to 8pm on Saturday.
The leaders of several political parties have confirmed their participation in the talks.
They include the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), the Jatiyatabadi Samamona Jote, Bangladesh JaSaD, the 12 Party Alliance, Gono Forum, and the Jatiya Party.
The chief advisor will speak to the leaders of the different parties on the general state of the country, the reforms to the administration and the Election Commission, and their views on upcoming elections.
Syeda Rizwana Hasan, environment advisor, told the media: “We will continue our dialogue with political parties and accept the reform proposals they submit. A process has been discussed in this regard.”
The interim government led by Yunus was sworn in on Aug 8, three days after the fall of the Awami League government. The government was formed after discussions between different political parties and the army, with the exclusion of the Awami League.
The BNP welcomed the formation of the interim government. But, since Aug 24, the party’s General Secretary Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has been demanding ‘very quick’ dialogue on the matter of elections.
A delegation led by Fakhrul met with the chief advisor on Thursday.
After the meeting, the BNP leader said: “The advisor will periodically meet with and exchange views with political parties.”
