Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus is meeting with a delegation from the Jamaat-e-Islami on the upcoming elections and current affairs.
The meeting began at Yunus’s official residence, the State Guest House Jamuna, around 4:30pm on Sunday, the Chief Advisor’s Office said.
A four-member delegation led by Jamaat-e-Islami Nayeb-e-Amir and former MP Syed Abdullah Muhammad Taher is attending the meeting. The other members of the delegation are Secretary General and former MP Mia Golam Porwar, Assistant Secretary General Rafiqul Islam Khan and former MP Hamidur Rahman Azad.
The chief advisor will also hold separate meetings with the BNP and National Citizen Party (NCP) today. The meeting with NCP is scheduled for 6:30pm and with the BNP at 7:30pm. These meetings will also be held at the official residence of the chief advisor.
The BNP meeting had originally been scheduled for 3pm. But with the party holding a discussion at the Institution of Engineers auditorium in Ramna as part of its celebrations of its founding anniversary observance, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir asked for a change and the meeting was rescheduled accordingly.
The meetings come two days after a clash between Jatiya Party and Gono Odhikar Parishad (GOP) workers, in which Nurul Haque Nur, president of the GOP, was seriously injured in a baton charge by joint forces.
In response, the interim government led by Yunus decided on Saturday to conduct a judicial investigation into the attack on Nur.
The violence has also sparked calls for a ban of the Jatiya Party, stirring further unrest in the political sphere.
