A 12-year-old domestic worker was found dead, hanging from a ceiling fan, at a house in Dhanmondi area of Dhaka on Saturday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Maria, daughter of Masud from Achula village under Tarail upazila in Kishoreganj.
She was rescued in an unconscious state around 4pm and rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctors declared her dead, said Inspector Faruk of DMCH police camp.
House owner Nasrin Sultana claimed that her driver called her after not getting any response from the girl inside the house, so she rushed home and found her hanging from the ceiling in the guest room.
“She might not have wanted to continue working here. That could be why she took her life,” she said.
Maria’s grandmother Bokul, who arranged the job, said the girl was employed for Tk 4,000 a month.
Md Faruk, Inspector of DMC outpost, said that legal actions were underway.
