According to a study released on Monday, early childhood care centres are assisting parents working in the country's readymade garments sector in ensuring their children's education.

One of the most significant findings from the research is that children of working parents are joining mainstream education as a result of implementing age-appropriate Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) Center programmes.

The findings were shared at a workshop on the progress and success of the PVH-ECCD project held in Dhaka.

Since 2020, Save the Children has been operating ECCD through a strategic partnership with six garment factories located in Gazipur and Savar, funded by PVH Corporation.

Moreover, working parents can leave their children at ECCD centres or day care centres while working in the comfort of the workplace.

The views and feedback of the beneficiaries and caregivers on various aspects of the project, such as Child Day Care Centre, Child nurturing, and Pre-Primary Education have been discussed in the workshop.

Participants in the workshop recommended that such project activities be extended to labour-intensive areas of Bangladesh. Under this project, 8,487 children, 9,033 mothers, 786 expectant mothers, and 67 expectant fathers have been served since 2015.

Anjir Liton, director general of the Bangladesh Shishu Academy, was present as the chief guest in the workshop.

He said, "Our greatest strength is the garment industry workers, special provision for their children will open a new door for children."

Shamim Jahan, deputy country director of Save the Children in Bangladesh attended the workshop as special guests.
