The former Padma Bank chairman Chowdhury Nafeez Sarafat has been barred from leaving the country, facing allegations of corruption.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Mohammed Ash-Shams Joglul Hossain's court passed the order on Monday in view of an application filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

ACC Public Prosecutor Mahmud Hossain said the Anti-Corruption Commission is investigating allegations of bribery, corruption, forgery, and abuse of power against Chowdhury Nafeez Sarafat.

The ACC has learned that he might flee the country at any time, Hossain said.

Therefore, they filed a petition with the court seeking a travel ban on the former Padma Bank chairman.

Earlier, on August 25, Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU), sent a directive to various banks and financial institutions in the country to freeze Sarafat's bank accounts.
