Chuadanga records season's lowest temperature at 8.2°C
Farmers are worried about the seedbeds for the Boro season as dense fog blankets the region

Chuadanga has recorded this winter's lowest temperature as the mercury plunged to 8.2 degrees Celsius amid dense fog. At the same time, chilly winds have been blowing, causing severe cold across the district.
The temperature was recorded at 6:00 am on Wednesday, according to Altaf Hossain, an observer at the Chuadanga Meteorological Department office.
Due to the challenging weather conditions over the past few days, farmers were unable to work in their fields. Even day labourers who came to the town early in the morning, braving the cold, failed to find work, bdnews24.com reports.
Kalam Mondol, who came in search of work on Wednesday, said: “For several days, thick fog and cold winds have prevailed. We haven’t seen the sun for four days, and there’s no work. However, it wasn’t this cold on the previous days. Today, too, it seems I will have to return empty-handed.”
Meanwhile, various cold-related illnesses have spread, and hospitals in Chuadanga continue to experience heavy inflow of patients.
Nazrul Islam of Garabaria village in the Sadar Upazila, who came to Chuadanga Sadar Hospital seeking treatment, said: “Because of the cold, I can’t do any work. On top of that, I’m having respiratory problems and have caught a cold. That’s why I came to see a doctor.”
Bhanu Khatun of Jadupur village in the same Upazila said, “I got diarrhoea, so I came to the doctor.”
Farmers are worried about the seedbeds for the Boro season. They fear that the seedbeds will be destroyed due to fog.
Rafiqul Islam, a farmer from Monirampur village in Sadar Upazila, said: “There is a lot of work in the fields right now, but nothing can be done. We can’t work due to the fog and cold. We fear that crops in the fields may get damaged.”
