A Dhaka court has ordered the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to reinvestigate the case over a crash that killed six people at the Dhaleshwari toll plaza on the Dhaka–Mawa Expressway more than a year ago.

The order was issued on Thursday by Dhaka Senior Judicial Magistrate Tajul Islam Sohag following a petition from the complainant, lawyer Ripon Hossain told bdnews24.com.

The accident occurred around 11:15am on Dec 27, 2024, when a Bepari Paribahan bus rammed into a stationary private car and a motorcycle at the toll plaza.

Six people, including four from a family, were killed, while four others were injured.

The dead were:

Amena Akter, 45, wife of Iqbal Hossain of Sirajdikhan, Munshiganj

Her daughters Israt Jahan, 26, and Riha Moni, 11

Israt’s 2-year-old son Aiyaz Hossain

Nipa Akter Reshma, 26, wife of motorcyclist Suman Mia

Their 7-year-old son Md Abdullah

The case was filed the next day by Amena’s brother Nurul Amin under the Road Transport Act.

On Oct 28, police submitted charges against driver Nur Uddin, 29; owner Mostafa Rarhi, 65; his son Parvez Rarhi, 27; and W Bepari, 47.

Dissatisfied, Nurul filed a no-confidence petition on Dec 18.

“After the hearing, the court ordered a CID probe,” said lawyer Ripon Hossain.
