Hurun Nahar Rashid, mother of Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Afroza Khanam Rita, passed away early Sunday at the age of 83 (Inna Lillahi wa Inna Ilaihi Raji'un).
She breathed her last at 4:30 am at Evercare Hospital in the capital, where she had been undergoing treatment.
Hurun Nahar Rashid was the wife of former minister Harunur Rashid Khan Monno and had previously served as chairman of Monno Group of Industries. She had long been battling cancer and was admitted to the hospital after her condition worsened.
She is survived by two daughters and three grandchildren.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir expressed deep shock and sorrow at her death. In a condolence message, he conveyed sympathy to the bereaved family, describing her as an exemplary woman who consistently encouraged and inspired her husband and children in their good deeds and political activities. He prayed for eternal peace for the departed soul and for strength and patience for the grieving family.
Leaders of various political, social and cultural organisations also expressed condolences, praying for the salvation of her soul and extending sympathy to her family.
Her janaza was held at the Monno Medical College ground after Asr prayers. She was later laid to rest at the family graveyard.
