Civil society groups welcome 10,000MW solar target, call for clear roadmap

A coalition of civil society groups on Monday welcomed the government’s target to generate 10,000 MW of solar power by 2030, calling for a clear and inclusive roadmap to ensure effective implementation.

The press briefing, jointly organised by ActionAid Bangladesh, Just Energy Transition Network Bangladesh and Bangladesh Sustainable and Renewable Energy Association, was held at Tafazzal Hossain Manik Mia Hall of the National Press club.

Energy experts, policymakers and civil society representatives attended the event, outlining key priorities for a just and sustainable energy transition. 

Speakers emphasised  the need for policy coherence, improved regulatory frameworks and stronger institutional capacity to meet the  target.

They also highlighted the importance of ensuring inclusivity and affordability in scaling up renewable energy, particularly solar power.

The organisers presented a set of recommendations aimed at facilitating a realistic and equitable transition pathway aligned with national climate and development goals.
