Several people have reportedly been injured in a clash between two sides over the hanging of an Islami Chhatra Shibir banner at Dhaka’s Government Titumir College.

The clash broke out around midnight on Saturday, but the situation has now returned to normal, Rasel Sarwar, chief of Banani Police Station, said on Sunday morning, reports bdnews24.com.

Several people, mostly Shibir activists, were injured in the incident, he said.

The confrontation allegedly involved members of the Chhatra Dal, the BNP’s student wing, and Shibir, Jamaat-e-Islami’s student wing. However, Shibir claims that they were attacked by the Chhatra Dal, while the Chhatra Dal claims Shibir clashed with “regular students”.

“We have spoken to both sides,” OC Rasel said. “Shibir has blamed Chhatra Dal, while Chhatra Dal says the incident involved regular students.”

The situation is now calm and police have been deployed in the area, he added.

No complaints have been filed over the incident so far, Rasel said.
