Leaders of left-leaning student organisations at Rajshahi University have alleged that activists of Islami Chhatra Shibir attacked their torchlight procession on Tuesday night.

The rally was organised to protest the acquittal of Jamaat-e-Islami leader ATM Azharul Islam, who was previously sentenced to death for crimes against humanity during Bangladesh’s 1971 Liberation War.

According to leftist leaders, the attack took place around 8 PM under the banner of an ‘anti-Shahbagh alliance.’

The confrontation left four leaders of left-leaning student organisations and a journalist injured.

On the other hand, the secretary of Islami Chhatra Shibir claimed that several of their activists were also injured in the incident.

In response, the university unit of the student wing of BNP, Chhatra Dal, organised a protest march demanding justice and a safe campus environment.
