Closing all edu institutes considering Dhaka’s temperature not reasonable, says Nowfel

Education Minister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel has expressed his displeasure with the closure of educational institutes across the country considering the temperature in Dhaka.

He said, “It is not reasonable to close schools and colleges across the country considering the temperature in Dhaka.”

The minister said this at a press briefing after inaugurating the ‘Technical and Vocational Education Week-2024’ on Sunday.  

Referring to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department forecast, the minister said the temperatures are likely to touch 40 degrees Celsius in five districts which is not new in Bangladesh.

Therefore, it is not advisable to close all educational institutions across the country based on the forecast of temperature going above 40 degrees Celsius in five districts, he said.

However, schools and colleges reopened today (Sunday) after a seven-day closure due to the heatwave.
