Metro rail services were suspended for 16 minutes on Wednesday after a piece of cloth got entangled in the overhead electric cable between Uttara North and Uttara South stations.

According to Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL), train movement came to a halt at 12:22 pm when the cloth fell onto the Overhead Catenary System (OCS), the electrical line that powers the metro. The obstruction was cleared shortly afterwards, and operations resumed at 12:38 pm.

In a statement, DMTCL said that the temporary suspension was necessary to safely remove the object from the OCS. The authorities also expressed regret for the inconvenience caused to passengers.

This incident follows two recent disruptions: on Sunday night, metro services were stopped after two teenagers climbed onto the roof of a train, and last Tuesday, operations were halted for 20 minutes when a bag was found on the metro track.
