Members of the Bangladesh Coast Guard have rescued 14 crew members of a lighter vessel, which remained stuck in the Bay of Bengal since Monday night.
Lieutenant Commander M Hayat Ibne Siddique, media officer of the Coast Guard, said they were rescued from the ‘Shyamal Bangla’ vessel on Tuesday afternoon, reports UNB.
All of the crew members were given first-aid treatment. Then they were handed over to vessel owner A Karim along with the vessel.
The wheat-laden lighter vessel was anchored 10 nautical miles from Sandwip in the Bay of Bengal around Monday midnight as it seawater entered into it after developing a crack.
Besides, a fire also broke out in the engine room.
On information, a Bangladesh Coast Guard team went to the spot and rescued the crew members.
