A woman was injured after at least three cocktails exploded during a gang-related clash in the capital’s Mohammadpur Geneva Camp area on Sunday afternoon.
The injured, identified as 26-year-old Madina, was passing through the area when the explosions occurred. She suffered splinter injuries to her hand and received first aid, UNB reports citing police.
Speaking to UNB, Officer-in-Charge of Mohammadpur Police Station Iftikhar Hasan said the explosions took place between 1:30 pm and 1:45 pm during a turf war between two rival groups — Boni Israil and Picchi Raja.
“Three cocktails exploded, raising tension between the gangs. Unfortunately, a passerby, Madina, was caught in the blast and sustained minor injuries. She was treated and released,” said the OC.
Upon receiving information, police from Mohammadpur Thana conducted a special raid in the area. However, no arrests were made as the gang members had fled the scene before law enforcers arrived.
Locals say confrontations between these two gangs have become increasingly frequent, disrupting daily life in the densely populated Geneva Camp, home to many marginalized families.
Police have increased patrols in the area and are continuing their efforts to identify and apprehend those responsible for the explosion.
