Bangladesh Jatri Kalyan Samity (BJKS), a citizens' rights platform, demanded on Monday of the government to provide an appropriate amount of compensations to the victims' families of launch incident at Shyambazar in the city.

They also called for proper medical treatment for the injured persons and early rescue of the missing persons.

Secretary General of BJKS Md Mozzammel Hoque Chowdhury in a statement issued on the day also demanded to identify the culprits/ persons responsible for the fatal incident and bring them to book.

He also demanded handing over of victims' dead bodies to their respective families with the expenses of the ministry of shipping.

He said this type of incidents have been happening at a regular interval due to the utter negligence of the authority concerned as they don't bother to see using of small dingy boats by the passengers for movement to and from Sadarghat on the river Buriganga.

The incident took place near Dhaka's Shyambazar at around 9:30am on Monday.

Meanwhile, the ministry of shipping (MoS) formed on Monday a seven-member committee to probe the launch capsize incident at Shyambazar in the city.

Joint Secretary (Development) of the ministry Md Rafiqul Islam Khan was made convener of the committee while director (river safety) of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) Md Rafiqul Islam is the member secretary of the committee.
