The National Consensus Commission continued its talks with experts to prepare recommendations for the government on the implementation of the July Charter.
Some recommendations, including holding a referendum on the Charter—but not on the reforms that political parties agreed upon with notes of dissent—have not yet been finalised, sources in the commission said.
The commission, on Wednesday, again sat with experts to discuss recommendations related to the ways and methods of implementing the July National Charter.
The meeting was held in the conference room of the commission's office at the National Parliament. Retired Justice M. A. Matin of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court and Barrister Imran Siddique were present as experts.
Among the experts, retired Justice Moyeenul Islam Chowdhury, Dean of the Faculty of Law at Dhaka University Muhammad Ekramul Haque, and Senior Advocate of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh Sharif Bhuiyan participated virtually.
The meeting reviewed various recommendations for the implementation of the Charter, and there was a lengthy discussion on the suggestions received from the experts.
According to a media statement of the commission, it will sit and discuss the recommendations with its members on Thursday and then meet with the experts again on the same day.
Commission Vice-Chair Prof. Ali Riaz, Member Badiul Alam Majumder, and Justice Md. Emdadul Haque participated in the discussion on behalf of the Commission. Monir Haider, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser involved in the national consensus-building process, was also present.
