Cops arrest one over infant’s death during Dhaka mugging

Police have arrested over the death of an infant during a mugging in Dhaka last week.

Early on the morning of Dec 18, a couple travelling on a rickshaw with their 2-year-old son and 5-month-old baby when they fell victim to muggers in the capital’s Doyaganj.

The infant fell from the moving rickshaw to the ground as the muggers attempted to snatch the mother’s purse.

He is a drug addict and has been involved in several muggings, bdnews24 said citing Deputy Commissioner of Wari Division Farid Uddin.

The couple had come to Dhaka the same day from the southern district of Shariyatpur for medical treatment of their elder son.

“Rajib confessed his involvement to police,” said the senior police officer, adding the suspect would be produced in court, where they would seek to keep him in custody for further interrogation.
