Coronavirus crisis: 327 Japanese leave Dhaka

A total of 327 Japanese citizens left Bangladesh for their country on Thursday.

A chartered flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines carrying them took off from the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital this morning, said Mokabbir Hossain, the managing director of the national flag carrier.

Sohel Kamruzzaman, assistant director (public relations) of Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB), said the flight took off for Japan at around 10:20am.

A group of US citizens also recently returned to their country voluntarily amid the coronavirus outbreak. The embassy in Dhaka is arranging a second chartered flight for US citizens willing to go back home, according to a news agency report.

Coronavirus, first reported in China in December last year, has so far infected 936,438 people and killed 47,251 of them, according to Worldometers.

Japan has confirmed 2,384 cases and 57 deaths while in the US, there have been 215,300 cases and more than 5,000 deaths.

Bangladesh also confirmed 54 coronavirus cases and six deaths until Wednesday.
