A mobile court in Narayanganj seized some 13,980 litres of diesel and handed down fines and prison sentences to those involved in illegal stockpiling on Tuesday.
The authorities conducted a raid based on secret intelligence at approximately 6:00 pm at Siddhirganj, near the Eidgah beside Meghna depot of Godnail to recover 9,100 litres of diesel from illegal hoarding, according to information officer of the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources (MPEMR) Arif Sadeq.
The mobile court fined Mr. Sifat Tk 6,000 and sentenced him to two months of simple imprisonment.
Later on Tuesday night, another raid was carried out at the SA Road area near Meghna depot in Godnail.
Acting on a tip-off, officials recovered 4,880 litres of diesel illegally stored in a house.
The accused, Mr. Nasir, was fined Tk 3,000 and sentenced to one month of simple imprisonment.
