A Kishoreganj court on Tuesday sentenced three people, including two women, to death for killing a college student in 2008.
Judge of the Kishoreganj Additional District and Session Judge court-3 Fatema Zahan Swarna handed down the punishment.
The condemned convicts are—Selina Begum alias Sheuli, 25, wife of Kaiyum Sarkar of Brahmanabria district, Shobha Prokash Meghla, 20, daughter of Abdul Khalek of Ashuganj upazila and Md Sumon, 22, son of Sahil Uddin of Bhairab upazila of the district.
Of them, Meghla and Sumon were tried in absentia.
The court also fined them Tk 10,000 each.
According to the prosecution, Mohammad Ali, 22, a honours first year student of Hazi Hasmat College and son of Samsuddin Mia of Kuliarchar upazila, and his friend Murad were stabbed indiscriminately by a group of miscreants after entering the college premises on the night of January 6, 2008.
Later, they were taken to Bhairab Upazila Health Complex where the doctors declared Mohammad Ali dead while Murad was shifted to Dhaka for better treatment.
Samsuddin, father of the deceased, filed a case with Bhairab Police Station in this connection.
