Financially disadvantaged, more than 500 women artisans in Bogura are busy making kumrabori, a locally made popular food item, this winter season.

They have already started selling it too.

They say they are making good profits by selling kumrabori, which has a good demand across the country, especially during the winter season.

Made of a paste of pumpkin and mas kalai, a kind of pulse, kumrabori needs to be kept in the sun for a week to make it worth eating and marketing.

Moseda Begum, a housewife from Jhakor village under Adamdighi upazila, says they have difficulty drying kumrabori when the sun does not come out during this season.

Fungus attacks kumrabori kept long without sun, she points out, adding that they opt for sunny days to make it

On a visit to Chumohony bazaar under Dupchanchia this correspondent found 'kumrabori' was being sold at Tk 250 to 300 per kg.

Bogura Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Md Masudur Rahman says there is a good potential for this small business - making and selling kumrabori.

He called on the authorities concerned to come forward to boost the business in the district.
