Asian elephant dies in Cox's Bazar

An Asian dead elephant was recovered by the forest department from the Kachubnia area of Dariyardighi in Ramu upazila of Cox's Bazar.

The elephant was approximately 65-70 years old. No injuries or wounds were found on any part of the elephant's body.

The forest department said the elephant may die due to indigestion or over-eating.

On Thursday around 12 noon, the forest department personnel went there and rescued the elephant after getting information from the locals.

Cox's Bazar South Forest Division Head (DFO) Md. Sarwar Alam said, "Around 12 noon, we received information that an elephant was lying dead at that place. We immediately went there and observed the condition of the elephant. It is believed that the elephant may have died from overeating or stomach ailments. No injury marks were found on any part of his body. The doctor got the information from the examination."

He said the age of this male Asian elephant can be approximately 65-70 years. An elephant can usually live up to 70-80 years. In that case, the elephant is believed to have died due to old age. We have collected a sample of the elephant and sent it to the lab to investigate the death further, he added.
