A woman was killed in a landslide amid heavy rains in Bandarban sadar upazila on Tuesday.
Protima Rani Dey, 45, wife of Milan Kanti Dey was buried alive when a chunk of mud fell on her tin-shed house in Baruartek area around 12:00pm.
Being informed, members of Fire Service and Civil Defence recovered the body and sent it to sadar hospital morgue for an autopsy, said Iqbal Hossain, assistant director of Fire Service and Civil Defence.
Besides, multiple landslides occurred in different places of Ruma and Sadar upazilas, said Md Aslam Hossain, Deputy Commissioner of the district.
“Using loudspeakers, villagers were asked to leave their vulnerable houses on the slope of hills and take safe shelters,” he added.
Since Monday night, heavy rainfall occurred across the district, says a UNB report.
Meanwhile, road communication between Bandarban and Rangamati has been suspended since morning due to heavy rainfall and landslides.
