Banned BCL man stabbed to death in Sylhet

An activist of the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) was stabbed to death during a factional clash in Sylhet city on Tuesday night.

The deceased was identified as Tushar Ahmed Chowdhury, 21, son of advocate Sajed Ahmed Chowdhury of Bashundhara residential area of Roynagar in the city.

He was the follower of the city unit of Awami League joint general secretary Bidhan Kumar Saha, reports UNB.

Locals said two groups of the banned BCL got locked into an altercation over an internal issue in the Daldali Tea Garden area of Shahi Eidgaon in the city around 10:00 pm.

At one stage, rivals stabbed him with sharp weapons, leaving the youth critically injured, they said.

Later, he was taken to Osmani Medical College and Hospital where physicians declared him dead upon arrival.

Syed Anisur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Airport police station under Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP), said the altercation between two groups led to the killing.

One of the troublemakers, identified as Jabed Ahmed, was detained in this connection, he said, adding that efforts were underway to detain the rest others.
