Barisal to set 49 cattle markets ahead of Eid

A total of 49 cattle markets including permanent and temporary will be set up marking the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha in the district.

According to local administration, a total of 16 permanent cattle market exists in Barisal district and in addition with that permission of another 33 temporary cattle markets were sought in City Corporation. Among them 28 got permission and rest will be permitted soon, local authorities said.

Sources of Hat-Bazar unit of Barisal City Corporation (BCC) said two permanent cattle markets will be settled at Baghia area and Port Road of city while application sought setting of three other temporary cattle markets at Rupatoli Mollabari Madrasa field, Kaligira Bazar and C and B Road Sech Bhaban.

Among them three were permitted morally, said Hat-Bazar unit convener Nurul Islam.

In last year, three temporary cattle markets were in the city but this year application for only three cattle markets were submitted and granted. On the other side, as no one leased the permanent cattle markets this year, BCC will operate them, he said.

Legal action will be taken if anyone tries to settle cattle market in other place out of the local government's permission, he added, UNB reports.

Security has been enhanced to avoid extortion and stop gangs interference in the cattle markets.
