A damaged rail line in Natore’s Bagatipara Upazila has been temporarily repaired by stuffing the gap with jute sacks. Trains are passing the area at a slow speed.
Locals noticed a four-inch break in the rail line in the Lokmanpur area of Bagatipara on the route from Abdulpur Station to Rajshahi on Wednesday morning, said Asim Kumar Talukder, general manager of the Bangladesh Railway West Zone (Rajshahi).
“Locals noticed the break in the line before the 7:30am commuter train from Pabna to Rajshahi reached the spot,” he said. “When the locals informed the Lokmanpur station master, railway workers started repairs on the rail line.”
“The incident occurred because it is a 50-year-old rail line. The broken section was fixed using a special strategy [using jute sacks] and trains are running through there at 10 kmph.”
The broken section will be repaired by Wednesday afternoon, he added.
