A lighter ship carrying cement clinkers has sunk in the Bay of Bengal after a collision with another vessel, the BIWTA says.

The accident occurred near Noakhali’s Tangarchar, about a kilometre from Bhasanchar’s buoy No. 1, on Sunday, reports bdnews24.

The SK Farvin lighter barge was headed from Chattogram to Narayanganj carrying 1,500 tonnes of cement clinkers, BIWTA Deputy Director Md Selim said.

“SK Farvin partially sank after it collided with another lighter barge named Bashundhara-27 near Tangarchar.”

Most of the vessel has sunk, but the 13 sailors on board have been rescued, said Selim.
