Ctg folk fair marking 'Jabberer Boli Khela' begins today

A three-day folk fair (Boishakhi Mela) centring 'Jabberer Boli Khela' (wrestling competition) will begin at the traditional sport event's venue at Laldighi Maidan in the port city of Chattogram tomorrow (Thursday).

The historic wrestling show of the people of Chattogram will step into 116th year this year.

The 116th 'Jabberer Boli Khela' will be held on Friday (April 25) while the first version of the competition with participation of wrestlers from Chattogram and adjoining areas took place in 1909.

Several hundred stalls will showcase handicraft items, toys, household essentials and sweetmeats at the fair.

Leaders of the fair committee requested to all to help the law enforcing agencies maintain law and order during the Boli Khela.

They requested the businessmen not to pay toll to any unauthorised individual.

Commissioner of Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) Hasib Aziz will inaugurate 'Jabberer Boli Khela' this year.

Mayor of Chattogram City Corporation Dr Shahadat Hossain will hand over prizes among the winners at the closing ceremony.

CMP has taken special security measures for the visitors of 'Jabberer Boli Khela' and the fair.

Former general secretary of Chattogram Jila Krira Sangsta Hafijur Rahman has been selected as convener and grandson of Abdul Jabbar Swadagar Swakat Anwar Badal has been made member secretary of the convening committee of 'Jabberer Boli Khela' 2025.
