Divers recover body of drowned girl from Meghna

The body of a female student of a private university, who along with another mate went missing while bathing in Meghna River at Char Sonarampur on Saturday, was recovered from rail bridge area in Ashuganj upazila on Sunday morning.

The deceased was identified as Sanzida Binte Tanvir, 21, a student of Computer Science and Engineering department of Notre Dame University in the city.

Badrul Alam Talukder, officer-in-charge of Ashuganj Police Station, said seven students of the private university went on a boat journey at Char Sonarampur on Saturday.

At one stage, two students - Sanzida and Ishrak alias Mehrab, 20 - went missing in the river while bathing in the evening.

On information, divers of local fire service station in association with the members of Bangladesh Navy rushed in and started the rescue operation, reports UNB.

Later on Sunday morning, the body of Sanzida was found floating in the river around 11 am.

However, the search operation was continuing till filing of this report.
