Dumki UNO named Best of the Year in birth and death registration

Dumki Upazila of Patuakhali has secured the top position in the country for birth and death registration, surpassing 507 upazilas and city corporations. This achievement crowns Dumki’s Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Abujar Md. Ijajul Haq as the “Best UNO of the Year,” following his two consecutive months (May and June) at the number one spot.

The information was revealed in a recent report published by the Office of the Registrar General (Birth and Death Registration).

According to the report, Dumki Upazila achieved 118.56 percent in birth and death registration. The second position went to Biral Upazila of Dinajpur with an overall score of 116.52 percent, while Mirzaganj Upazila of Patuakhali ranked third with 115.11 percent.

UNO Abujar Md. Ijajul Haq said, “This is not only my achievement but also the success of the people of Dumki. I am grateful to the Deputy Commissioner of Patuakhali  and the Deputy Director of Local Government for their guidance and inspiration. As the team leader, I regularly monitored the process. I extend my thanks to the village police, union parishad chairmen and members, and administrative officials.”

Patuakhali Deputy Commissioner Abu Hasnat Mohammad Arefin said, “This is indeed a remarkable achievement. I congratulate and thank the UNO of Dumki, the public representatives, the village police, and officials from the family planning department. This success is the result of their combined efforts. I also congratulate the people of Dumki.”

Barisal Additional Divisional Commissioner Md. Ahsan Habib said, “I thank the UNO of Dumki. He holds regular meetings with village police members, ensuring accountability. He also engaged chairmen and secretaries to ensure monitoring activities. That’s why this success was possible. If this model is followed, others will also achieve success.”
