A man and his wife were killed after a fire, suspected to have been caused by a gas cylinder leak, broke out at their home in the Ashrampara area of Dinajpur city early Monday.
The deceased were identified as Tapan Sarker, 45, and his wife Lota Sarker, 37.
The fire started around 1:00 am while the couple were asleep in a small room on the ground floor of a two-storey house, said Obaidul Islam, senior station officer of Dinajpur Fire Service.
Local residents alerted the Fire Service after noticing flames and smoke billowing from the room.
Firefighters rushed to the scene upon receiving the information and brought the blaze under control.
After extinguishing the fire, personnel recovered the charred bodies from the room, the official said.
Preliminary findings suggest the fire may have originated from a leaking gas cylinder.
As there was no objection from the victims’ family members, Kotwali Police Station permitted the bodies to be cremated without conducting an autopsy.
