Four killed as sand-laden truck overturns at Rajshahi village market

Four people were killed and another was injured when a sand-laden truck lost control and overturned at a village market in Puthia upazila of Rajshahi on Thursday morning.

The accident occurred at Jhalmalia Bazar while banana trading was underway. The identities of the victims could not be known immediately, according to a UNB report.

Quoting witnesses, Puthia Fire Service said the truck veered off the road around 7:40 am and hit a group of people engaged in banana trading, leaving four dead on the spot and one injured.

The injured person was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Upon receiving information, two rescue teams from Puthia and adjacent Natore fire stations rushed to the spot and recovered the bodies, they said.

Inspector (Investigation) of Puthia Police Station Bari Munshi said the bodies would be sent to the Rajshahi Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy before being handed over to the families.
