MAGURA, Nov 22: Upazila Health Complex, Sreepur, has been suffering from manpower shortage.

Moreover, some medical instrument have been lying without repair since long.

Sreepur upazila health complex was set up in 1967 with 30 beds.

It was upgraded to 50 beds later.

Sources said after though the hospital was upgraded to 50 beds it was not provided adequate manpower and instrument.

As a result, the health complex failed to provide minimum services to its patients.

Sources said three doctors are posted in the complex but two of them are working to other hospitals on deputation.

Moreover, the lone X-ray machine is out of order and it has no anesthesia machine.

At present the health complex holds only 44 staff out of 123.

Everyday 100 to 120 patients come to the outdoor of the health complex but most of them are referred to Magura 250-bed hospital.

Sreepur upazila health officer Dr Roisuddin said, "We are failing to provide proper treatment to the patients. However, I have already informed my superior authority about the present condition of the health complex."

Our Bogura correspondent adds: Patients of the Dupchanchia 50-Bed Upazila Health Complex have been suffering since long as the only X-ray machine of the health centre is out of order.

According to the hospital sources, the health complex was upgraded from 31 beds to 50 beds in 2008.

Poor villagers of the locality depend on the health complex for their medicare issues.

The Health Department had replaced the 12-year old X-ray machine on July 01, 2014.

The machine had damaged on October 16, 2016 after providing service for two years.

Since then the machine has remained unrepaired due to shortage of fund and modern tools, sources added.

A good number of patients said they have to go to the private diagnostic centres and clinics to do X-ray at high rate.

Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr Md Abdul Quddus Mandal said he has submitted an application to the Health Department for allocation a new x-ray machine.
