Jabberer Boli Khela': Cumilla's Sharif Boli retains championship

CHATTOGRAM, Apr 25: Bagha Sharif Boli has won the champion trophy in the 116th edition of historic and traditional 'Jabberer Boli Khela' (wrestling competition) today, securing his second consecutive win in the event.


Among the 147 Bolies (wrestlers), Bagha Sharif Boli grabbed the champion trophy while Rashed Boli became runner-up of the competition this year. They both hail from Cumilla.

Last year also, Bagha Sharif Boli won the champion trophy while Rashed Boli too became runner up of the contest.

It may be mentioned that after half an hour of wrestling, Bagha Sharif Boli defeated Rashed Boli and won the champion trophy of 'Jabberer Boli Khela' this time too.

The historic and century-old traditional popular sports event of Chittagonian people locally known as 'Jabberer Boli Khela' was held at Lal Dighi Maidan in the port city today. A total of 120 Bolis from different parts of the country took part in the competition. Of them, 80 Bolis were selected for the competition. A total of eight of them who all hail from Cumilla contested at the quarter final of the 'Jabberer Boli Khela' today.

All bolis from Chattogram and other districts were defeated before the quarter final.

Commissioner of Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) Hasib Aziz inaugurated the Boli Khela.

Later, Mayor of Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Dr Shahadat Hossain handed over prizes to the winners including champion Bagha Sharif Boli and runner-up Rashed Boli.
