Joint forces detain 72 ‘drug traders’ from Gazipur slum

Joint forces detained 72 people along with a huge amount of drugs, locally made weapons and Tk 2.2 million in cash for their suspected involvement in drug trading at the Keranirtek slum of Tongi in Gazipur.

The detainees include 51 men and 21 women, according to a UNB report.

On a tipped-off, a team of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), police, and army members conducted a drive in the slum in the Station Road area of Tongi.

During the drive, the joint forces recovered drugs, cannabis, phensedyl, yaba, a large number of locally made weapons, Tk 22,81,300 in cash from different shanties of the slum.

Besides, 1,100 litres of local and foreign alcohol were seized from Hotel Javan.

Around 500 members from various law enforcement agencies participated in the operation.
