Mahbubul Alam re-elected Chattogram Chamber president

Mahbubul Alam has been re-elected president of the Chattogram Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI), the apex trade body in the port city, for the fifth consecutive time.

The newly elected Board of Directors of CCCI, at its first meeting at the CCCI office at World Trade Centre on Tuesday, unanimously elected Mahbubul Alam for 2021-22 and 2022-23 periods.

They also elected Tarafdar Md Ruhul Amin as senior vice-president and Sayed Mohammed Tanvir as vice-president of the trade body.

Newly elected Director A K M Akter Hossain presided over the meeting held under the supervision of Chairman of the Election Commission for the CCCI election Nurun Newaz Selim.

May 9 was the last date for filing of nomination papers for the CCCI election and all the 24 candidates for the post of directors of the CCCI were elected unopposed in different categories. According to the rules, the directors elect the president, the senior vice-president and the vice-president.

Mahbubul Alam, chairman of M Alam Group, hails from Gohira village under Raojan upazila in Chattogram. He obtained his degree from Chattogram University and was involved in student politics.

Previously, he was the president of Khatoongonj Trade Association for several terms and also served as senior vice president and vice president of the CCCI.

Mr Alam is also the general secretary of Chittagong University Alumni Association. Tarafdar Md Ruhul Amin, who was elected senior vice-president of CCCI, hails from Jashore. He is the managing director of Saif Powertec.

Mr Amin was the vice president of CCCI in the previous term. He is the proprietor of E Engineering Ltd, Saif Plastic and Polymer Industries Ltd, Saif Port Holdings Ltd., Saif Electrical Manufacturing Ltd., Maxon Power Ltd., Saif Global Sports Ltd., and Blue Line Communications Ltd.

Sayed Mohammed Tanvir, who was elected vice president of CCCI, is the managing director of Pacific Jeans Ltd. and son of renowned businessmen Nasir Uddin.

He obtained his degree from the University of Leeds in the UK. He was a director of CCCI in the previous term.

The other elected directors are Ohid Seraj Chowdhury Swapon, Anjan Shekhor Das, Benjir Chowdhury Nishan, Hasnat Md Abu Obaida, Iftekhar Hossain, Md Shariar Jahan, Najmul Karim Chowdhury Sharon, S M Tahsin Jonaied, Salman Habib, Md Faoujul Alef Khan, Sajib Ahamed, A K M Akter Hossain, Jahirul Islam Chowdhury Alamgir, Md Rakibur Rahman, Shafique Ahamed Salam, Tanvir Mostafa Chowdhury, Md Iftekhar Foisal, Mohammed Adnanul Islam, Nasirul Alam, Alhaj Md Serajul Islam and Md Omar Faruque.
