Four people, including a man and his son, have been killed in a clash stemming from a long-running turf war between rival factions in Narail Sadar Upazila.
The incident occurred around 5 am on Monday in Barakula village under Singasholpur Union, said Oli Mia, chief (OC) of Narail Sadar Police Station.
The victims were identified as Khalil Sheikh, 55, his son Tahazzad Sheikh, 35, Ferdous, 33, and former Union council chairman Osibur Mia, 65, reports bdnews24.com.
Narail Superintendent of Police (SP) Mohammad Al Mamun Shikder said supporters of two former Singasholpur Union chairmen, Khayer Molla and Ujjal Sheikh, had been embroiled in a power struggle.
The clash erupted during sehri, when supporters of Khayer Molla allegedly attacked followers of Ujjal Sheikh, according to the SP.
“A father, son and nephew from one side were killed in the attack. One person from the rival group was taken to the hospital, where he was declared dead,” he added.
Police said another five to six people were injured. Additional forces have been deployed in the village, and legal action is underway, according to OC Oli Mia.
