MANIKGANJ, Nov 24: Farmers showcased their seed bank of traditional seeds during the "Field Day and Nabanna Festival" at Barundi village of Hatipara in Manikganj Sadar Upazila.
With the slogan "Practice Agroecology, Preserve Seed Diversity", the event was organised on Monday afternoon by the Barundi Farmers' Association. Non-governmental research organisation Bangladesh Resource Center for Indegenous Knowledge supported the event.
Shahjahan Seraj, DD of the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) in Manikganj, attended the event as the chief guest. He visited farmers' Aman paddy research plots and the seed bank and later took part in an exchange meeting with the farmers. The seed bank, called Barundi Seed Bank, is a single-floor tin-shed house, which has containers full of seeds of different crops.
