The low lying areas of Chattogram went into knee-deep water due to monsoon rains on Sunday, causing immense sufferings to its residents.
Residents of some areas have been remaining water-logged for five consecutive days.
Sources said, downpour started from 2:00 pm Wednesday and continued till Sunday evening.
The local meteorological department recorded a total of 194.2 mm of rainfall in the past 24 hours to 3:00 pm on Sunday.
The meteorological department hoisted the Local Cautionary Signal No 3 for Chattogram sea port as monsoon winds made the Bay of Bengal more turbulent than usual.
Most of the areas of Chattogram were inundated on Sunday due to the heavy torrential rains.
The low-lying areas Bakalia, Chandgaon, Bahadderhat, Chawk Bazar, Badurtala, Nasirabad, Halishahar, Patenga, Kattali, and Chaktai went under knee-deep water following the torrential rains for several hours.
Light to moderate rains trigger water logging in the low-lying areas of the city frequently.
