General Secretary of Narail district unit of Sramik Union was killed over a trifling matter in Lohagara upazila on Sunday afternoon.
The deceased Abdullah Al Mamun, 50, was son of late Waliar Fakir of Mohisapara village under the upazila, UNB reports.
Police, however, detained accused Idris Mia in this connection.
Locals and police said Mamun went to a local kitchen market to buy vegetables.
The victim and Idris, a potato trader of the bazar, locked into an altercation over the price of potato.
At one stage, the trader hit on the head of Mamun with a silver bowl, leaving him critically injured.
He was rushed to Upazila Health Complex where physicians declared him dead upon arrival.
Lohagara police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Ashikur Rahman said they detained accused Idris and legal actions in this regard was underway.
