Newly-harvested jute starts appearing in Tangail market

TANGAIL, Aug 09: Jute harvest is going on in full swing in all the 12 upazilas of the district.

Growers are also happy over the good market price as the newly-harvested jute has started appearing in the local market.

DAE sources said about 50 per cent harvest has already completed and the rest will be completed by the end of the current month.

Per maund jute is being at Tk 2,000 to Tk 2,500.

Shariful Islam, sub-assistant agriculture officer of DAE, Tangail, said soil of the area is suitable for jute cultivation.

A good number of farmers in the district grow the cash crop for high profit, he added.

Farmer Moijuddin of Mamudpur village under Delduar upazila said he cultivated jute on 2.5 bighas of land and got a good production.

The Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), Tangail, said some 12,000 hectares of land were brought under the farming of jute in the district this season.

DAE provided all necessary support to the cultivators to make the farming programme a success.
