Number of dengue patients up in some northern districts

BOGURA, Aug 25: The number of dengue patients is increasing in some districts of northern region.

Civil Surgeon Dr Gosul Azim Chowdhury of Bogura district said some 14 patients have been infected here in the last 24 hours. Some 83 are taking treatment across the district including all the twelve upazila health complexes. A total 801 people have already been affected with the fever.

In Pabna, some 22 dengue patients were taking treatment across the district. Dengue fever has been infected 11 in the last 24 hours. A total 435 people have already affected with the fever.

Civil Surgeon Dr Zahid Nazrul Choudhury of Chapainawabganj said some 14 people have been infected with dengue fever in the last 24 hours. Some 34 are taking treatment across the district. A total 230 people have already affected with the fever.

Civil Surgeon Dr. Md Zahidul Islam of Siraganj district said dengue fever has been infected 20 in the last 24 hours. Some 52 are taking treatment across the district. A total 529 people have already affected with the fever. Some 477 patients have released from hospitals after treatment.

Civil Surgeon Dr Shams Uddin of Joypurhat said dengue fever has infected two in the last 24 hours. Some four are taking treatment across the district. A total 76 people have already affected with the fever.

Civil Surgeon Dr Md Azizul Islam Civil of Natore said dengue fever has been infected none in the last 24 hours. Two people are taking treatment across the district. A total 157 people have already affected with the fever.

Civil Surgeon Dr Md Mumunul Haque of Naogaon said dengue fever has been infected two in the last 24 hours. Some five are taking treatment across the district among them three in Sadar hospital and some two are in Shapaher upazila health complex. A total 213 people have already affected with the fever.

Our Correspondent from Rajshahi adds: The number of dengue patients in Rajshahi declined significantly as only four people affected with the disease and admitted to Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital in the last 24-hour.

According to RMCH sources, so far only one patient attacked with dengue was locally diagnosed. He is now under treatment at the ICU of the hospital. During the last 24 hours a total of 10 dengue patients were released after treatment and now only 11 dengue patients in total are taking treatment at the hospital.

RMCH sources, however, informed so far 527 dengue patients were admitted at the hospital out, of whom 515 were released after treatment.

Of the admitted, at present, one patient is under treatment at the ICU. He has been identified as Hasibul Islam, son of Tagar Ali of Gochar village and a student of class four of Gochar High School under Bagha upazila. One dengue patient died at RMCH during treatment.

Mabia Begum, mother of Hasibul informed, his son was attacked with fever on Monday last. He was treated locally and then admitted to Puthia Health complex but his condition did not improve there and he was referred to RMCH where the doctors diagnosed him as suffering from dengue.  He was admitted to ICU of the hospital but even after a week, his condition remained unchanged.

Sirajul Islam, Health and Family Planning Officer of Bagha upazila health complex said no patient dianosed with dengue was so far admitted in his hospital.

He said he had heard Hasibul was attacked with dengue locally and he was admitted to Puthia Upazila Health Complex at first and from there he was referred to RMCH.

Dr Saiful Ferdous, deputy director of RMCH, said dengue situation in Rajshahi is improving.

Our Sylhet Correspondent writes: A total of 10 dengue-affected patients were admitted to different hospitals in the Sylhet region, including the divisional city during the last 24 hours till Sunday morning.

Among the patients, five were admitted to the Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College and Hospital (SOMCH) while two were admitted into other hospitals in Sylhet. One patient was admitted into the Moulvibazar district hospital and two others in Habiganj district hospital while no new admission was there into the Sunamganj district during the last 24 hours.

As of today, the overall dengue situation showed much improvement, officials said on Sunday afternoon. The number daily admission came to the lowest in recent days whereas it was much higher, just days ago.

Director of Health, Sylhet, Debpada Roy told this correspondent this afternoon the number of dengue patients has been on decline for the last one week. Specially, it had shown much improvement in Moulvibazar and Sunamganj, he added.
