One killed, three injured in Ctg fire

A woman was killed and three others, including a child, were critically injured in a fire in the Mohra area under Chandgaon Police Station in Chattogram.

The fire broke out at a house in Mohra area around 2:45 AM on Tuesday.

The deceased was identified as Geeta Rani Ghosh (65).

The injured are: Geeta Rani Ghosh's son Biplob Ghosh (49), Biplob's wife Kona Ghosh (35), and daughter Shashi Ghosh (10).

Locals rushed them to Chittagong Medical College Hospital last night and all the injured were shifted to a Dhaka hospital on Tuesday noon in a critical condition.

According to the fire service, two units from Kalurghat station reached the spot at 2:45 AM after they were contacted. The blaze was brought under control at 4:10 AM. Goods worth about Tk 1 million were burnt in the fire.

Uttam Das, a relative of the victims, said, "After the fire broke out, we heard screams from inside the house. We tried to break the door, but it was not possible to enter due to the intense heat and smoke. Later, the fire service arrived and rescued everyone."

Mohammed Fakhru Uddin, station officer of Kalurghat Fire Station, said, "Our two units worked to bring the fire under control. Initially, it is believed that the fire started from an electrical short circuit."
