A policeman was attacked and injured during a raid in Chattogram after a flash procession by the Awami League (AL) was reported in the port city.
The incident occurred in the Ishan Mistry Jetty area on Monday night, according to bdnews24.com.
The injured officer has been identified as Sub-Inspector Abu Sayeed Rana, who is assigned to the Port Police Station.
Deputy Commissioner (Port) Amirul Islam said that an Awami League procession was held in the Ishan Mistry Jetty area at night. Upon receiving this information, members of the Port Police Station went to the spot and conducted a raid. During the raid, a policeman was attacked and hacked at with a sharp weapon before the attacker fled.
Several people were arrested during the raid, he added.
Deputy Commissioner Amirul said that the police will hold a press briefing to provide additional details on this matter.
Meanwhile, local police officials said that Awami League activists brought out a flash procession in the Ishan Mistry Jetty area at night. When the incident was reported, a team of four to five law enforcers from the Port Police Station went to the scene.
Noting the police presence, a group of 10-12 men chased the law enforcers. When the others retreated, SI Rana was left behind. He was then attacked.
